Introduction + Nemesis

Hi everyone!

Mangozac was kind enough to invite me to join this fine group of talented individuals.

That in itself was quite a feat , as I am something of a hermit. I rarely poke my head out of my cave

It has long been my dream to turn my hobby into a full-time endeavour. I have been taking cautious steps toward this over the past few months, but as a hermit I am not well versed in the ways of the world, but I would like to share one of my creations with you.

The Nemesis Assault Suit. 1/300th scale resin kit approx. 140mm tall

Hope you like :)

That thing is a beast!!! Very nice paint as well. Is that CAD or a scratch build?

And if scratch build do you have any wip shots?

Thanks,
Blind-

Thanks!
Its a scratchbuild, that took a good chunk of my life to complete
The paint was my first outing with an airbrush, having previously painted the GW way. I found the painting tutorial by Luca Z on Miniature Mentor to be a great help.

I tend not to take pics of wip, but I might have some if you really want to see them

cheers

Id love to see them, I scratch build stuff(not as good as you) and seeing others gives insight to techniques and ideas.

well here are some wip pics I dug up, some are so old that some design aspects changed I started it in 2007!

The torso section was the first part I started on it is mainly sculpted of milliput and procreate .

Here I was trying to figure out the 3 toed foot and leg proportions

Torso and abdomen together , working out the balance (quite an early shot)

First time standing, trying to get an idea of what the parts look like together.

Most of the build was sculpting rather than shaping styrene, but some was used for the under structure, especially on the shoulder pad. :)

Hey Dave it's great to have you here! You've certainly got some fantastic hobby skills - both you scratchbuilding and your painting. I can't believe that was your first time with an airbrush! Luca's Miniature Montor DVD must certainly be a worthwhile investment!

The Nemesis is awesome and I can't wait for my copy to arrive!

Please [b]always[/i] share WIP shots any any scratchbuilding. I was gonna say it's like pornography, but let's be honest it's better than that: porn is boring and all the same; scratchbuilding is awesome and always gives so much inspiration :P

The process of creating a model in that kind of style is so different to my Centurion, for example. It's so free form and like you say, a lot of sculpting. I've really got to give it a go some day. Maybe I should so some space ships in that style...

Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to talking lots of hobby with you on here!

Thanks Zac!

I must say I haven't seen another modelling forum with such a high level of skill and knowledge among it's members. I look forward to seeing all their work :)

My first scratch build was a 40k Imperial Baneblade in 1992, if I remember correctly White Dwarf issue 132 had paper templates for building one. At that time the only way you could have one was to build it, so I did. The resulting model got me an immediate job offer at my local GW store when I was 19 so it worked out well

I will remember to post wip pics , your so right, I feel another visit to Kallamity coming on!
And yeah Luca z 's painting tutorial gave me 10 years of trial and error in 7 hours, well worth it.

Nice mech (assault suit) and painting. A bit strange is this red horn on helmet.

You said Baneblade? So do you have photos?

Thanks :) years ago there was a video game called "Assault Suit Leynos", its a more specific term that I liked , so I borrowed it.

come to think of it the red horn does look a bit odd
Its a sensor spike for the pulse lasers in the head. I guess I wanted it to stand out..... ;)

unfortunately ,no I have no photos of the Baneblade, it was 1992, taking photos back then required manual loading of film into the camera with no guarantee that any photos would come out, so generally people didn't use them for minis. :( a few years later I gave it to a friend and he crushed it while moving house.........everything you build gets crushed in the end , tis live :?

I like the spike on the head - it's very Japanese Mecha style!

Was the Baneblade made from card or styrene?

The horn was inspired by the gundam unicorn series that I was watching while sculpting the head. I originally had two horns on it , but it wasn't working out.

The Baneblade was made of styrene I guess back then it was really hard to find, internet had only just been invented and my local hobby shop carried no plastic sheet. blimey, I feel really old now!
I cut the plastic parts out of 2 ltr walls ice cream tubs, cost nothing and worked a treat.

2 horns would have looked lame. Unicorn look all the way :P

Ahh tales of construction from food and beverage container plastic (and early internet). I'm glad I'm doing my hobby now!

Heh prehistory. I have somewhere in home of my parents cardboard Excalibur fighter from Wing Commander. I´m not sure, If I have photos.
I like Japan mecha style, but this horn still looks strange. Horn was ok on EVA suit from NGE.
What a pity, that we will not see this baneblade.
