Mech Design

Postby paulson games » Thu Apr 28, 2011 4:41 pm

A couple weeks back I'd comissioned David White to do a piece of mech concept art. He does a bunch of differant mechs for battletech and the transformers comics, his website: http://www.mechazone.com/ His deviantart gallery has a lot of fun stuff too: http://mecha-master.deviantart.com/gallery/

Anyways he sent a couple very rough sketches that I can pick and choose components from and I thought I'd toss it up here to see what you guys think and if tehre's individual parts you like.

Once I get my feedback compiled and send it back he'll work on a more finished piece, then I'll be building a computer model from it so that it can be printed out.

I like the top on the right mech and the legs on the middle mech. The far left one seems the weakest. The middle one could work as is too.

It's obvious he is a pro, very nice family of light, medium, heavy mechs.

Which design, or parts depends a lot on the role you desire it to fill.

For simple looks I prefer the body and upper leg of the right (heavy) but the lower leg and foot of the middle. Maybe armor up the cockpit of the heavy as well.

I do like the updated design - it looks strong but still fairly agile. The artist certainly has some great aesthetic ideas in terms of shapes and details!
Oh yeah I can make that....

Hmmm. That updated design seems a little bottom heavy. The weapons help, but the way the cockpit interacts with the upper leg seems a bit off.

I really like it. Much more modern than the typical Battletech stuff he does! Not sure about the missile launchers, but I love the main cannons ;)
