There's still a few areas that are a little bit bare, but for a first attempt they are the least of your worries! What do you think was the most important thing you learned?
So what's next? The rest of that ship you've been showing WIP shots of the mid section of?
Thank you so much mango, i have read and learned so much from this forum you've started. I acuate the successes I've had in casting from the info, and members of this forum. There are almost no bubbles at all, the detail is crisp and clean. Any mistakes are from how i decided to position the model in the playdoh before pouring silicone.
As for the bare parts, i had trouble seeing some of it since i used so many different colored sculpting items. now that i get a piece thats one solid color infront of me some pieces stand out for sure. The prow needs some work, and those flat spots below the bridge.
Whats next you ask... Well the ship i've been showing WIP shots of may get scrapped, i believe i made it a bit to thick, i want to shave around 3-4mm off it so it won't be so big in the middle. I have been throwing an idea around in my head for a little while as well, i'll think on it some and start a new thread soon.
The most important thing i learned with doing this build for me and i think it happens to a lot of people trying to create something envisioned, is to build. You can stare at a stem with some round thing sticking out of it imagining a flying bridge and gun batteries on it, but until you start cutting stuff up and gluing that stuff on it will only ever just be an image in your minds eye. I have been working on this small item for about 5 months, at one point i stripped the whole rear of the ship off and started over, but i kept plugging away and trying new things. And i am very happy with the outcome.
