Odd shaped cast

Postby Michael88 » Sun Feb 07, 2016 3:23 pm

I am trying to make a silicone mold of a bell. I use alumilite high strength 3 bc it doesn't require a vacuum. I only have a pressure pot. With that said, the stuff ain't cheap by any means. I'm trying to not waste an entire case of the stuff on my learning curve if the knowledge is already out there. So to the question. How should I mold and demold this bell? I'll be using alumilite resin to make the copy once it's done.

My concerns are mainly about the shape and how I'm going to get it out once I've cast without tearing the mold. So if anyone has any ideas I would really like to hear them.

A bell should be quite simple - just have the mould line around the bottom of the bell, so one half is the inside of the bell and the other half is the outside.

If you want to do a low risk test cast try to find a smaller version of what you want to mould (perhaps a bell from a Christmas decoration) and try that...
Oh yeah I can make that....
