Space Wolf Blog Takes a new direction

Postby Arkangel » Mon Feb 13, 2012 9:58 am

:?
As an avid Space Wolf player Ive been following the Spacewolf Blog for some time. Originally ran by a British guy and his friends plus a few others blogging about their games and their tournement participation plus best ways to use units in their opinion.

Well it all went quiet around xmas with no future in sight. Until now. It would appear an American follower has bought up the site and decided to run it with a buddy.
They barrelled straight into asking for 'Donations' to keep the site up and running and well it would appear, put a few noses out of joint, to be honest mine too. To top it off said 'Buddy' told one of the Original Blog guys to Foxtrot Oscar!

I just wondered if anyone else here followed it or had seen what was going down there?

Anyway if nothing but for checking out the awesome Sister and Wolf web comic there here's the Link: http://space-wolves-grey.blogspot.com/

If they are collecting money from donations or doing raffels they are on borrowed time before GW's lawyers come a knocking.

They shut down turn signals on a landraider over donations. They've shut down a bunch of blood bowl and specialist games themed sites that weren't collecting anything off the site. Pretty stupid as most of those games are way out of print and the sites help promote the games and sell GW minis. Why kill free advertising?

Plus doing those $1 raffles through Paypal has its pitfalls too (I remember reading of another blog doing something similar which ended up with all sorts of Paypal hijinks).

Actually I wasn't at all familiar with the site (but then again I don't visit many gaming oriented sites these days). I don't understand why they need donations though? There's advertising on the site. What exactly is the money going to (it may be written somewhere in the blog but I don't have time to read through it!).
Oh yeah I can make that....

TSOLR I loved that site
But both of you are right. It would appear that one of the guys who is an admin or good friends with the new owner/opporator took offense when one of the original Admins questioned the new direction and the ethics behind the need for money.
The guy shot himself in the foot imho when he made a comment about how much the site made a month, already saying he wasn't interested in the money, to then blab on about how he spends more on a business lunch! :x
That was a bit wrong if you're trying to get people to 'invest'.

From now on I'll only dip in and out for either past content or hopefully the revival of 'Wolf and Sister'.

I spent yesterday afternoon playing Super Dugeon Explore (great game!) with a good friend of mine, Adam, the guy who set up and ran the blog till recently, so safe to say I know the situation fairly well.

He didnt have time to run the blog fully, hence he sold it, the new owner I dont know anything about, but he intends to run the blog much the same with continued input/writing from Adam, so while there will be some changes, I think the continuation of the blog is a good thing.

Asking for donations is fair enough, producing the content takes time and effort and is offered free of charge.. its not like they are insisting on donations!

I would be a lot more interested in the raffle if it was for somthing good/expensive ie forgeworld or a larger marine kit.

Just a quick update. Ive been in direct contact now with the new 'owner' and he seems genuine in his ideas of keeping the site up and running and in a positive direction. So all in all I think it's good news. Plus with Adam dipping in and out with the odd article here and there and should add some continuity.
