Sedition Wars Kickstarter

Postby paulson games » Sun May 27, 2012 4:49 am

Cool Mini Or Not and Studio Mc Vey have put up a kickstarter for the Sedition Wars release, (IMO looks much better than Mantic's project pandora). They already hit their inital funding goal of 20k in less than a day so there's some strong interest.

On a personal note I met Mike at Adepticon last year and he was a really cool guy, incredibly tallented sculpter and painter. I hope his company really takes off as he does top notch work, I enjoyed a lot of his 40k stuff and he's one of the main reasons why I also got into warmachine.

Ah man, i want this.... :( Ive brought Zpokalypse from kickstarter, that was $105... do i want to splash out on this? thing that does my head in is the postage! $25!! Makes me sad, lol.

Jon is right though, looks well better than project pandora. Was speaking to mike at salute, and he wants to bring sedition wars from the board game, to tabletop game.

Just made my pledge.

Looks like they are at 57k already, just a bit more and people get some extra minis.

I will be making my 'Pledge' thurs when I get paid, Just another few thousand and we'll get an extra twelve dudes plus, the female sculpts
I plan to pledge enough for the 'Biohazard' set which will include the resin Kara figure too. I'm just gutted we'll have to wait until Nov for release :(
Been a long time since I've been excited about buying into a board game. Last time was the Limited release Space Hulk. I plan on putting a sealed set up for auction soon, I own 2. I've kept hold of it but can't justify keeping it anymore and need the revenue that it's likely to generate

I'll be looking forward to seeing them take it from the board game to the table-top too, if the rumours are true. Like going from Space Crusade/Space Hulk to 40k  That's how I ended up hooked on minis.

Seriously guys you should get over to the Kickstarter site and check this OUT!! It's grown so rapidly that aditional minis and alternate sculpts have already been 'released' to add to those sets already pledged on by backers.
All this speak about pledges and backers is explained better on the Kickstarter site guys but the basics are you get to pre-order the game for a fee, and the ammount you pledge dictates what you get for your 'Pre-order'.

It's almost as addictive as that first forray on to eBay. There's so many great projects on there and so little cash in my bank account!!

Go check this and support Studio Mcvey! Then go check the Studio McVey site too

Wonder how well the game will sell once released.

Seriously, I expect at least 1000 copies to go to supporters. How large is the expected customer base?
Let's hope they do not strip that customer base while adding to the cost of the final product.

I don't think of this game or Zombicide being overcharged for product. Most of what they have listed is just slightly below what the stuff would normally retail for plus get a lot of extra models.

I typically don't buy stuff retail anymore as it's easier to get things form a discount site, so by pledging on kickstarter for this and zombicide I probably paid more than I would have (as I'd normally get it for like 30% off) But I know that the money is going directly to the product creators which is something I support. And it's basically the same as paying normal retail price.

If they were selling the same game to distributors/wholesalers they are marking it down between 50%-60% off teh retail so they can leverage a lot more start up cash if they sell it directly.

That's why GW pushes their own stores so heavily. They might claim that they are hurting from running retail shops but when you look at that they control their products the entire way they are still making far more money than when they sell products to 3rd party distributors.

As for numbers I don't know any specifics as to what they expect to sell, but based on what I've seen from talking with my game distributor and guys who work in the industry a "low volume" run on a board game is usually around 5k copies. When dealing with printers the larger volume you can produce things in the cheaper the costs become.

It seems a bit crazy but if you did a run of say 1k copies it could have nearly the same cost as doing 5k-10k copies. There's huge costs associated with machine set up with printers and plastic molding so small runs are very costly, where large runs can be much cheaper.

Reading the game blogs it looks like they intend to do a table top version of the game, the boxed game will serve as the gateway product for that sort of like when GW produced space hulk. It'll serve as a quick way to get people exposed to the universe and minis while being a "rules lite" product that is meant to get people playing immediately, where constructed armies take a lot of time to build and paint etc.

Dust tactics is doing a simular theme now, their original version was a square/grid based system to get people into the setting and minis and they've since released a table top rules set for more advanced play, all the original models are full compatible with the more advanced table top rules.

Privateer has their two player boxed set now as well as battle boxes which are great for people looking to test out teh rules and see if they are inetrested in the larger game.

I think it's a great move by all those companies as there's a lot of players who are just looking for something somewhat simple and playable frm one box. I have been playing miniatures games for 25 year and I still find myself preferring self contained games, or skirmish based games at the very least.

That's one of the things I hated about GW when they dropped their specialist games like Mordheim, it was something simple yet had enough meat as a stand alone game. If I had any say in GW decision making Spacehulk would be a permanant product as i know so many people that got into GW specifically because of that game (including myself) I've never seen anyone get excited over black reach or the older battle for mc carge, but people still gush about spacehulk.

Jon I totally agree with everything you've said. Space Hulk, Mordenhiem, Necronmunda, Blood Bowl, even hero quest and space crusade in conjunction with MB Games these are the games that brought people to Warhammer 40K and Fantasy.

The suits at GW have forgotten that. People want a 'Pick-up' game. Something that doesnt involve £300 worth of miniatures and books and a good two hours of your time to play, having spent pondering over an hr or two of army writing.

Whilst that is the true beast of wargaming, the lifes blood is the quick game the FUN game.
Over the last year 18 months my friends and I have been playing small 500-750 point games with no special characters no heavy supports just 1 HQ and the remaining points spent on troops and their transports. And Man have we had fun!!!!!

Board games like BFA and Space Hlk etc are a window into a bigger world. But if you stop people looking through the window by closing it or taking it away.........

I cant wait for this to come out, then open up the Universe of Sedition Wars

Ok guys its in the Last Few Hours if you were sitting on the Fence nows the time to get in before you lose out. The ammount of free minis alone now at the Biohazard level is just sick. Add in all the cool minis you can buy for $10 a pop like the fire fly crew and Ripley and Vasquez its just great.

GO GO NOW!!!!!!!

I jumped in at the start. The Studio McVey figures are so detailed they make me scared to put paint
on them. If the plastics are half as good, they will still be amasing.

I has been one crazy ride.

Impressive!

Roughly 4500 sets sold and $951,254 raised on the project. Who knows how many of the exclusive minis sold. Something like 15 new minis created just for the backers.

Nearly a million bucks in guaranteed turnover? Not bad! But that was the easy bit - now they've gotta make all of these minis!
Oh yeah I can make that....
