Make a kayak paddle

Postby ralph » Sat Dec 28, 2013 7:49 am

HI:

I want to make a carbon fiber kayak paddle. I would like to make the core of the handle foam. I have an existing paddle that i was going to use as a model. I was going to make a split mold . It is unclear to me though how I would get the foam in the middle ?

line bottom half of mold with carbon pour in foam then put other half over - but how will one dise of the carbon stick to the other ?

Hi Ralph, this sounds like a very expensive process! Isn't carbon fibre applied in more of a layered approach? I.e. have the foam core and successively apply layers of carbon matting soaked in resin (generally polyester)?

How big is this paddle? Making a split mould of something like that would be very expensive!
Oh yeah I can make that....
