Home made hot box with light bulbs, thermostat it???

Postby pbell0000 » Sun Sep 14, 2014 5:15 am

Was curious if you guys have ever gone this route or not. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I needed to post cure parts we are molding. We made a box out of insulating foam sheets, the kind with tin foil attached, basicly made a hot box. We have light bulbs in there, creating the heat, and its on a dimmer switch. I call it a "Betty Crocker oven", if you get the reference. You would think finding the right spot on the dimmer switch would correlate to a certain temperature once everything stabilizes, but we are seeing it get too hot or too cold. Has anyone hooked up a thermostat to control the light bulbs going on or off? I'm thinking a thermocouple probe in the hot box and a thermostat controller outside so it doesnt melt, then that would either turn off or on the light bulbs. Anybody do that before? and how?

Thanks!
