Vaseline to help detach 2-part mold?

Postby Kingster » Wed Apr 15, 2015 4:00 am

I have listened that you can use vaseline, spreading it with a brush in the dried first part of the double mold, before you spill the rubber for the second mold. After the second part dries, you can detach easier the two parts to remove the model and proceed to spill the plastic.
Is it correct? Any advice?

Many sorries for any mistakes, my english are bad, I will try correct em if the post is not understandable..

Correct!

I have a tip: put the vaseline in a spoon and use a lighter to heat it. It will become very fluid and you can then apply it with a brush ;)
Oh yeah I can make that....

I’m about to make my third attempt at a two part mold, and I am definitely going to try this. If I can tack on another question, how important is it to clean off all the vaseline before using the mold? Last time I got sloppy and it was a pain to get all traces of it out.

I shouldn't be a big deal. Just so long as there are no traces inside the part cavities that will affect the finish of the casts...
