Is there a way to salvage this pot ?

Hey,
I am posting this for a friend. She has issues with her pressure pot. The T part broke when she tried to unscrew it so now half of it is stuck on the lit. She tried to get it out with a wrench but no luck so far. It refuses to budge and starts damaging the lid.

If everything else fails she would be interested in purchasing a 20ltr pressure pot to replace it so if anyone has a cool idea of a supplier in Europe, at a decent price, that would be wicked!

What I'd suggest is putting the lid in a workbench vise and then heating the broken part with a propane torch.



It's likely stuck due to the red loc-tite material that they place on the threading to help stop air leaks. With heat that stuff should either burn off or at least soften up enough you might have a chance to work the part free.

You will likely need to heat it from both the top of the lid and the underside particuarly if you can see red sealant on the threading. (I tried removing one of these conenctions and it's just about impossible without a torch). You may need to heat the part until it's glowing red hot.

As there's not much material to grab a hold of, you'll likely need a good pair of vise grip pliers so that it can grip the end of the pipe extra hard. Use heavy gloves and take extra care not to touch the hot metal or burn yourself.

Along with heat You could also try screw extractors..... They are made to remove stripped out screws but can grip the broken part with a firm grip and would be perfect for this...

Since I don't have any screw extractors I'd try Jon's suggestion first

It's amazing how strong Loctite/thread locking compounds can be! Or maybe the cheap cast t pieces are just really crappy
