Froghopper II

I saw this and I loved it - I think this could make such a cool 40k Flyer of some type. I'm picturing a small mini-gunship escort for a flight of Arvus Lighters - would be a cool scene representing the entry of an Inquisitor or something like that!

I definitely think I need to pick one up and try it out!

It looks like he mashed an x-wing and snowspeeder kit together! Personally I prefer the Arvus, but with some slight mods this could be looking pretty 40k too ;)
Oh yeah I can make that....

Actually, I was reminded of the Arvus Lighter the moment I saw these, and when I realized how small they must be (just look at the pilot), I figured they would look wicked as escorts. Sort of like the whizzing Cloud Cars in the Empire Strikes Back. A few weapon swaps, a couple mods to get those STC bits here and there, and a GW/FW Pilot... should look a treat on a 40k table near you!

For the size and what it is I honestly feel it's a little overpriced. The Arvus Lighter, while more expensive, is that bit bigger and a bit cleaner looking to justify the cost.

But each to their own ;)

That kit uses modified x wing engines... the exhast, turbine piece and the main engine's body are a recast of an x-wing model I have, they've changed a few surface details but it's 90% recast with a differant intake cowling.

The wings also look like they were taken directly from teh x-wing and then shortened with some extra styrene added.

Looks like they might also have boosted the canopy off of a snow speeder model.

I suppose it's sufficiently modified from the originals that it fits in with standard IP rules (not this crap that GW peddles)? I mean even though we spotted where the parts have some from, they are heavily modified...

They have enough things on that store to make me think Lucas Arts would be all over them like a fat kid on an icecream.

Well it arrived today in the mail....

First impressions were good. It was double boxed and VERY well packed. Then I opened the box......

The instructions are a photocopy. no directions only black and white grainy photos.... . The casting on the ship looks solid, but the crew sculpts and casting.....Im gonna have to take a better look because they did not look good at first glance.

Much bigger than I thought (you were correct Zac Its about the size of an Arvus) but Im still kinda Happy with it. not going to use them as air sentinals though...... So now im forced to make an AIR WING to support my catachans..... Jeez the things I forced to do.....

Pictures to come tonight or in a few days...

well jeez... my camera is not cooperating with me and I have crappy pics... BUT I will post here anyway.

Im looking through the kit and there are some miscasts (instrument cluster and another cockpit piece) and the pilots are crap..... I mean real crap. I planned to replace them anyway but oh well. the main body is pretty well cast, but you could tell in places that it was a garage kit. some of the webbing/screening is wonky and other parts are just not too clean. the sawers that clean up the pour sprues are overzealous in places too and there is some major file work and sanding to be done before the wings go on. Overall...... Im not too happy about this kit. its cool in the pics but I should have saved my $75 and just gotten the arvus like Zac had said. Im gonna give it a 3-5 for a review.

here are my crappy pics... more to follow and I hope they are better...
