Dust Tactics Heavy Panzer Walker

Guys check this out:

Those axis walkers are looking very cool (although not the allied one in the link - not a fan at all) and apparently will be going for only around $35!

Trying to get my head around this whole Dust thing is really difficult. It seems you can get resin kits of some minis (at pretty high prices), but also Fantasy Flight Games is doing some kind of prepaint cheapies like these. So I can't help but wonder what the quality is really like. Also, it seems that in making the designs suitable for prepaint construction some of the details get a little "softened" so they start to look more like toys than minis...

Warning: do not try to navigate the Fantasy Flight Games website. It will slowly drive you mad as the links take you around in circles.

The resin stuff is a mix of prototype pieces and stuff for serious modellers, not scaled for the game.

The pre-painted stuff for the game is probably some of the better pre-paints that I've seen. I don't have any personally but I've seen it at the game store and it doesn't look all too bad. For me I haven't jumped on teh band wagon because as much as I like big stompy robots I tend to prefer mine with a sci fi bent.

I love the concepts of alternate WWII games but I can't seem to get into them despite my love for the genre (indianna Jones) Nazi are the ultimate bad guys and 1940's style is slick so it makes for a great setting but I always find that the games fall short somehow. Tanbhauser is another one that looks great on the surface but I can't launch into for some reason.

I have some simular feeling towards the dystopian wars stuff, great concept and even has big steam powered robots but there's some vital hook missing to close the deal with me.

I discovered Dust at Gencon..... and fell in love.

I can post pics up soon of what i have, but they are not prepaints (you can get for $300 USD VS $80 for the core game) but are "pre-primed". The game plays very well as a bored (pun intended) game but the minis game (that uses the same models) plays well also.

With the whole GW thing annoying me Im concertrating on dust and dystopian wars until GW pulls something out of something else....

There are in fact four types of Dust kits.

The standard 1:48 scale kits for the game. These are what you get in the $80 box set. They are primed in gray or green but not painted. Walkers also have decals pre applied.

Pre-painted minis available in the Delux $300 box set and some expansions. Same minis as above but painted.

Resin kits in 1:32 and 1:48 scale. These are the original format from before there was a game. The 1:48 kits could be used in game if they have stat cards but are mainly for display.

Action figures of some characters.

OK good to have some clarification!

I'm inclined to agree with Paulson about Dust in general: I feel like it has a lot of visual potential but they're still falling slightly short of the mark with regards to level of detail. On 1/48 scale it's not so bad but on 1/35 it starts to become noticeable. It's quite OK to have oversized weapons and mechanical frames (in fact I quite like that style), so long as the detailing is not scaled up too.

The whole "pre-primed" thing is interesting. Is it a decent primer? What plastic are the minis made from - something slightly flexible I assume?
