What's happening with the prow?

It's still very WIP. The front part of the prow will most likely be a separate part, it will contain a wide arrange of guns, kinda like the previous version of it. Still pondering if I will give it a beak/mouth or not.

Another idea would be that it would be a lot more blockier, kinda akin to a hammer or an anvil, basically a heavily armored front, enabling this ship to ram its enemies. But perhaps that could be a variant...

With all the weapons and such the ship stands at around 49mm long, slightly bigger than an escort, not big enough to be a cruiser. I tried stretching the model a bit to make it about 75mm long, which gives it this amazing battleship look, would make a great cruiser (after a lot of modifications), so that might be in the pipelines as well.

It looks good, but I think it's too cluttered looking (even for Orks). I'd go for a couple of larger armour plate looking panels to break it up a bit...

I know what you mean, it's too busy. I think there should be some clear parts to point out the contrast, also some plates that look slightly in the style of my , to give that feel existing components have been assimilated into this ship.

The challenge is to have both these armor plates and maintain a sense of scale. The tiny details make the ship look huge, if the armor plates become too big, that sense of scale would disappear, kinda like when I had those roofs and windows on the previous incarnation of the ship.

I've been adding more details to the prow, I think it's almost finished, just a few tiny tweaks and then its ready. After that it's adding detail to the back of the ship, and finishing up the details on the rest of the hull. Shouldn't be too hard I think.

The problem is that it's still missing a lot of definition. It reminds me of a Firestorm Armada ship. IMO giving it some stubby side wings would help a lot, but I'm not quite sure if that's the only issue.

Large armour plates won't necessarily ruin the scale, so long as they have appropriate panel lines and the like in them.

Hmm, I should look more into that... You do make a point! :)

In the meanwhile, here an update on the Orky like ships, check the prow weapon variant on the bottom ship. Note that it's still WIP:

In the meantime I've been playing a bit with the image of the ships. That, and I've been fixing some tiny thin wall parts here and there:

The prow weapon looks cool and does help the amorphousness of the design a little ;)
