Cool, thanks!

Just in time to finish out these by the end of February thanks to Leap Year, here's my second Cron pylon. This guy is a bit of a mixed result for me. The first one and most of my cron force was painted several years ago and I've improved considerably in that time. For the original there was a lot of drybrushing and washes that worked well partly because there was more tooth to the primer I was using at the time. I wanted to match the look so I tried to duplicate the process and it didn't work out quite as well. All in all the Pylon looks ok, but I should have just painted it the way I do now and I think the end would have been much better.

Finally finished these guys up. It's been a crazy month and despite them being 90% metal, they took far longer than expected to get done. I also should have put the second layer of shade over the yellow areas too since contrast is a bit lacking. I think I'm done painting yellow for a bit. I need a break before the last of the land raiders and fighters.

Love the paint job you've given those pods! I'm kinda curious what the person who modelled this 40k/30k stuff could do if (s)he were working on his/her own IP... :D

I suspect, they are 3D prints. So you don´t need to be great sculptor as you need to make own sculpts. But it still takes time and money.

I don't wish to hijack this thread any further disagreeing with you, but I do strongly disagree with you.

Finished up what marks almost the final models for my IF Marine force. I just have four more land raiders to go before I'm done, but I'm a bit tired of painting yellow so I'll be moving back to some Blood Ravens next. These were pretty fun models to paint up too. Enjoy!

Just proving I'm still painting, albeit slowly this summer. I've really just been so slammed the past couple of months all I want to do in the evenings is sit doing nothing. :)

A bit of a side note here. I'm rather frustrated with the changes to the GW paint lineup. I painted these guys using Doombull Brown which is supposed to be the replacement for Dark Flesh. THESE COLORS ARE NOT THE SAME. I believe I salvaged it, but the initial colors did not have the same red tone that I got with Dark Flesh. I'm waiting on a bottle of Vallejo Dark Fleshtone to come in before proceeding as this appear to be a much closer match.

I'm also frustrated with how the new GW washes perform and their colors. Agrax Earthshade doesn't have the same look or properties as Delvan Mud. DM was far superior in applications due to it's tone. The same goes for Seriphim Sepia which is a completely different shade than the previous Gryphonne Sepia. I'm going to try replacing these with Army Painter Soft and Strong tones. Strong tone seems to be a dead ringer for Delavan Mud so I'm hoping I can just stop using the GW offerings. Too many color changes and name changes for me. I just want consistent colors I can replace or mix.

lovely stuff as usual V.

now regarding the hideous lack of devlan mud etc.. that you (and I It seems) are going mad over.
its true the like for like replacements are so far from truth its looking at bullshit in the rear view mirror.

thanks for putting me on to Army Painter range sounds like an interesting alternative.

however I found that taking one of the new agrax earthshade tubs (the larger ones: 24ml) and add in: 2.5ml of nuln oil.

its not 100% devlan mud buts its as close as I could get it...

funny how things like xv88 and snakebite leather are like 90/95% similar but some of the others are 100% bullshit! lol

best of luck...

Thanks, but it's not just the color on the washes, it's their properties that are different too. The old washes tended to add more contrast when they dried while the new ones go on looking good but tend to dry thin or have unusual drying patterns that really mess things up.

Look up the army painter strong tone though, from the videos and comparison photos I'm seeing it seems to be an almost 100% match.

I also get ticked that GW has to come up with more and more arcane names for their colors. Dark Flesh does a good job evoking a color range. Doombull Brown doesn't. Just like Ultramarine Blue is NOT the same as actual ultramarine blue. :)

So I finished up a few vintage GW drop pods today. These came already assembled so please forgive any of the wonkiness or mould lines I couldn't deal with.

Now on to Blood Raven landing craft... :)
