New to molding

Postby nick12 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 4:50 am

Hello, I found you guys from a Google search. I’m not sure if I am in the right place, but I need some help. I actually own a molding company, we do rubber and polyurethane compression/open cast/transfer/etc molding. i do not have any experience with silicone molding. sponge in particular. I am trying to figure out the best way to mold a part form red medium density silicone sponge. I just tried to compression mold it in one of my hydraulic presses at 250 degrees, but I just got junk coming out not a good part.

Do you guys know how I can do this? I would like to obviously compression mold it. I do have a pressure cooker/pressure chamber, but that does not have a press inside so I can only do open cast, which won’t work for this part since I need to mold it to fit a shape with close tolerances. Any help at all is greatly appreciated!
