Vaccum chamber; reservoir & filter?

Postby jwprops » Tue Jan 31, 2017 4:12 am

Hello!

I recently bought a vaccum chamber from Ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Gallon-Stainl ... SwA3dYWZMI

I'm still waiting on it to arrive, and I will mainly use it to degass RTV silicone and resin, but I read on another forum that you're supposed to have a reservoir tank with a filter to avoid vapors and sludge particles that come with the silicone reaching the vacuum pump, instead getting stuck in the filter,, extending the life of your pump. I've googled around a bit, but I can't find much about it anywhere else. Have you guys heard of it? Is it the same the "50 micron air filter" mentioned on Ebay?

I don't use a vacuum during my casting at all, perhaps try covering the hole with something breathable? Perhaps a paper towel might do the job, that way anything that might get into the pumps first catches on the paper towel?
