2 part Molds, 2 types of RTV ?

Postby Eddie » Tue Jul 29, 2014 10:06 pm

HI. This is my first post here and I have likely lots of questions I am sorry if this has already been covered. :?

I am making a quick test 2 part mold. I have made the first half and have some alternative brand.

I wondered if it will be safe to pour the second half using the other brand seeing as they will have a release barrier betwean them.

Love to hear your thoughts.

Cheers ;)

You say you sprayed mould release on the first half?

Hi, not yet. I currently have the 1st Half sat with the item still in waiting for the next delivery of rubber to do the next half then I will put on the release to stop them sticking.

However I was curious if I could use a different brand for this. I'm not going too. It's just for future reference.

I guess what I am asking is if different RTV's react or are they all pretty much the same.

Cheers ;)

Eddie, I'm 99% certain that you won't have any issue using different RTV products for different parts of the mould. They're chemically all pretty similar. And as you say, the release agent barrier will also prevent a lot of contact...
Oh yeah I can make that....
